The emergence of Covid-19 created an array of frustration and unprecedented emotions to everyone all around the world. However, those who have arguably been affected the most by this dreadful virus are those still in education. I interviewed University of Portsmouth Student Casey, 19 and College Student Connie, 18 to see how the coronavirus pandemic affected their education.

1.When you First heard about the Coronavirus outbreak did you think it would have as big of an effect on your education as it did?

Casey : “Being in my last year of sixth form I was worried about what was going to happen but I thought it would be over within a couple of months and had no clue it would go on for as long as it has.”

Connie: “In all honesty I didn’t have a clue everything I was hearing was just putting ideas into my head of what was going to happen and I didn’t think it was going to have such a major affect such as the lockdowns but I also didn’t think it would go easy.”

2. What did you think about the emergence of online learning?

Casey: “I thought it was a smart way to keep everyone safe but in all honesty I was sceptical about it, I didn’t understand how you could get all the content that you needed to learn solely through online especially at university degree level.”

3. Do you think your college did everything they could’ve done to ensure that you was getting the best experience possible?

Connie: “They were very slow to get us back into in person lessons compared to other colleges, for example, we literally went back to college a week later than all the rest but other than that they were pretty spot on and made sure we got what we needed.”

4. Are you worried about how this is all going to affect your future and your qualifications in the end?

Casey: “In sixth form I was very lucky that the government were so considerate and did what they could but now at university I am worried because it’s really hard to have that sense of routine due to all the recorded and online lectures, It feels like we’ve just been forgotten about.”

Connie: “I was fortunate enough to go back to in person lessons as soon as possible but it has been really hard to get back into a routine so in the long term I am actually really worried about the future of my education.”

The first coronavirus outbreak was back in December 2019 and is still going on to the present day. It’s affected everyone’s lives massively including students making them feel alone and isolated.
